Sashimi

Fish on its own terms

No rice underneath, no sauce hiding anything. Sashimi is the part of the menu where the buying and the knife work show up most clearly.

On the menu

Where to find sashimi

Sashimi is not a separate menu section at Domo. It runs through the bowls, salads and platters below.

The three you will see most

Ahi. Lean, clean, mildly sweet. The local reference point and the base of most poke on the menu.

Salmon. Richer and softer, higher in fat, which is why it takes so well to being seared in the aburi items.

Hamachi. Japanese yellowtail. Buttery with a firmer bite and a finish that lingers longer than ahi.

Beyond those three, Hokkaido scallop, uni and ikura show up on the premium bowls and platters when they are available.

Sashimi questions

What is the difference between sashimi and sushi?

Sashimi is fish on its own, sliced and served without rice under it. Sushi means the rice is part of the dish. Longer answer in sushi vs sashimi.

What does sashimi grade mean at Domo?

It is a standard the shop sets for the fish it will serve raw, not a government grade anyone issues. What Domo means by it is explained on the fresh fish page.

Which fish are usually available?

Ahi, salmon and hamachi run through the menu constantly. Hokkaido scallop, uni and ikura appear on the premium items and move with what comes in.

Can I order sashimi for a group?

Yes. The Nigiri & Sashimi Trio Platter puts ahi, salmon and hamachi on a tray both sliced and as nigiri. For an event, see catering and order online in advance.
